A letter to my Libyan (and pseudo-Libyan) friends. Help me help you tell your story. #Libya #LibyaBump

All right guys, here is the deal. I will not forgive myself if we don’t have Libya’s story featured in this project.
Grady Booch, the genius behind the Unified Modeling Language  is going to make a series of documentaries on the impact of Computing in history and wants to focus on the human experience. The idea is to make a mini-series talking about Computing and different topics like:
a) Computing and human interaction;
b) Computing and science;
c) Computing and politics;
d) Computing and war; and other topics.
One of these topics will mention the Arab Spring and I want to  make sure LIBYA has a significant role on the Arab Spring chapter.

Here is what I need from you:
a) share with people is kickstarter project:

b) make a VIDEO of YOURSELF telling the world how computing has impacted your life personally - you are Libyan? So tell us how the revolution in Libya benefited from the use of technology.

c) Submit your video to computing@booch.com (try to keep it under 1 min)

d) Check out Grady’s channel on youtube, my video is there!

e) here is the funny part. Grady said that if he get’s the kickstarter project funded he will post on Youtube a video of himself doing a “happy dance”.
So my husband sent emails to 270 people a  and got a bump of 2,000 dollars! So Grady replied by saying he will include a dance move called the “Dudley Bump” (long story on the name).
So, it’s on! I want a #LibyaBump!
f) Let’s make sure Grady includes a “Free Libya dance move” on his video!

Big hug to all,
Carol Viana

PS: This is not just Grady’s project. Vint Cerf, is in the project too.

PPS: Please consider donating to the kickstarter project. Even if it’s just 20 bucks, you will have your name on the list of first donors and your name will be mentioned in Grady’s upcoming book.

Let’s get busy! I want to see your videos and that Libyan bump!

#SandySabo shares her experience visiting wounded #Libyan veterans in Salem, Mass. US.

Sandy Sabo

  • Hi ALL! Just returned from visiting wounded Thuwar. It was AWESOME AND SO HEALING to see them, see that they are getting best care possible - a guard 24/7 outside their ward, staff wearing nametags with Arabic, translators on site for docs and patients. They were very happy to greet me, lots of hugs and stories. I had my picture taken with them on their cameras, but hospital will not allow me to photograph just yet.  I met one man shot in Tripoli on Feb 20th with bullet still in his chest. “Feel it” he says. Okay, that was different. Met man who was on front page of local paper and gave him the newspaper, he was thrilled.
Met another one shot by sniper in Tripoli in September. At one point, a non English speaker was hanging around me so I just dialed up a Libyan in US and they chatted and exchanged names. I could have stayed all day but security asked me to leave after 1 1/2 hours. I have requested to be on their visitor list. I saw lots of planning, dinner on Wednesday, party on Sunday. These men will definitely be well cared for and so honored to be able to greet them and send love from all.

I said to one guy, “Gadaffi is dead!” He said yes, whipped out his phone and showed me the video in the refrigerator. I called him Shashoofa and took off my shoe to smack him and they were laughing so hard that I know Shashufa and the shoe treatment. Also, I said Shashufa has no hair in back of his head and they were laughing all over again. GREAT MEN! Sorry this was so long but now I can go listen to Eyes that Bleed and feel healed from the long wait. I brought some pictures to them of victory days, Kalil, Hillary, recent good times. I THINK they want more as they took them and said “2?” so I will drop off more for them :) KISS KISS EVERYONE And thanks for your support.
    Sandy

(Sources: Aljazeera)

  1. NTC announced officially the liberation of all Libyan soil at 4 pm Benghazi time.
  2. Celebrations took place in Midan in Benghazi where people packed the place.
  3. Some speeches by different people preceded Abdul-Jalil that were not well prepared speeches to say the least.
  4. The formal liberation was made by NTC spokesperson Abdulhafiz Ghoga.
  5. NTC members where chanting: Lift your head, you are a free Libyan. “ارفع رأسك أنت ليبي حر”.
  6. Another official preceded Ghoga saying: We tell the entire world that we liberated our beloved homeland.
  7. That includes its cities, villages, plains, mountains, deserts, and skies.
  8. A new modern national Libyan army is being formed using the latest international standards.
  9. The army  will be on the side of people to protect democracy and will not ever be a helper to any dictator against the people
  10. The fighters need to either turn over their weapons or join the official army, police, or security forces.
  11. The fighters in east Libya already started turning over their weapons to NTC.
  12. Mahmud Jibril said the new government will be formed in a period from one week to a month
  13. Abdul-Jalil gave a short speech that seemed to be addressing domestic issues.
  14. The following items are summary of the lines in lines in his speech.
  15. Thanking Allah comes in two ways: Takbir (bowing) and Sujud (prostration) not through celebratory shooting.
  16. Celebratory shooting is prohibited since it kills people.
  17. Libyans were Libyans never were pleased with Gaddafi but the moment to rise up against him came this year
  18. This revolution started peacefully calling for the basic fundamental rights but were faced with force.
  19. I thank the Gulf countries for their help and support.
  20. I thank the UN Security Council for issuing a resolution to protect Libyan civilians.
  21. The resolution was enforced by many friendly and some Arab countries
  22. I thank the Thuwwar for achieving this victory.
  23. I thank all the layers of the Libyan society from business people to religious people to athletes to women.
  24. Special thanks got to the women who had a very effective role in the revolution and put up with the tyranny of Gaddafi.
  25. The spark of the revolution was ignited here in this place and our goal was the liberation of all Libya.
  26. I thank the Libyan business men and investors who helped out a lot with their generous donations.
  27. They sent caravans of aid to NTC to help the people and all for the sake of Allah.
  28. Libya is a Muslim country that considers Islamic Shariah as the main source of jurisprudence for legislation.
  29. If any law clearly contradicts the Islamic laws it will not be allowed.
  30. For example, on the family level, the law that bans marrying more than one wife will not be accepted.
  31. Another example is the Islamic banking.  We will work toward establishing banking based on no interest.
  32. We will work on making our financial institutions interest free.
  33. There will be interest free loans up to $10K for immediate needs.
  34. Future banking may follow the zero interest way because usury ruins people’s lives.
  35. Ali Tarhouni will be giving details on such packages.
  36. I invite everyone to practice tolerance, forgiveness, reconciliation, and getting rid of hatred, envy, jealousy, and spite.
  37. Our blood and honor cannot be touched.  Properties taken illegally must be return.
  38. My condolences are to Turkey for the victims of the earthquake.
  39. My condolences are also to Saudi Arabia for the death of the Prince Sultan the crown prince.
  40. I pray for the people of Yemen and Syria to have victory.
  41. I wish Libya a bright future.
  42. End of Abdul-Jalil speech.

Congratulations Libya and Libyans! Sympathizers of Gaddafi: Suck it up!

——— Thank you Abdul-Jalil, NTC, Thuwwar, and all Libyans! Mission Impossible accomplished in a record time with least means.
